Inspired by epicurious.com, I decided to put my chopping skills to work as I was intrigued by a slaw based on the Asian pear.
If you haven’t had an Asian pear before, you are missing out! It’s so juicy yet it’s very crunchy. Asian pears are usually quite large in size; therefore, I recommend sharing a pear between two or three individuals.

Serves 6 (1 c portion)
Ingredients:
2 Limes (juiced & zested)
2 Tbsp unseasoned rice wine vinegar
1 tsp fresh ginger, peeled & grated
2 stalks celery, cut into 1/4 ” matchsticks
2 Asian pears, cut into 1/4″ matchsticks
2 green onions, finely chopped
1/4 c cilantro, chopped
optional: hot chili flakes
Instructions:
- Chop Asian pear, celery, green onion and cilantro.
- Whisk together lime juice, lime zest, vinegar and ginger.
- Mix seasoning with ingredients.
- Season with salt & pepper.
- Marinate for ~15-20 minutes before serving.
